A producer in Dogliani, new president of Barolo Consorzio

Even though Barolo is king and Barbaresco queen in the Langhe area of Piedmont region, this amazing landscape Human Heritage protected by UNESCO encloses other grape varieties and appellations.

Few days after Vinitaly, Pietro Ratti has transmitted the reins of Consorzio di Tutela Barolo, Barbaresco, Alba, Langhe e Dogliani to Orlando Pecchenino. From a family winery mainly dedicated to Dogliani docg (100% Dolcetto) production, he also produces two Barolo single crus from Montforte d’Alba village. In his first speech, he expressed his will to pursue the protection of the great appellations that has given the International renowned to the territory and at the same time communicate all that Langhe offers besides.  

The consortium includes 10 appellations mainly red wines produced with grape varieties Nebbiolo, Dolcetto and Barbera: Barolo, Barbaresco, Dogliani, Dolcetto di Diano d’Alba, Barbera d’Alba, Langhe, Dolcetto d’Alba, Nebbiolo d’Alba, Verduno Pelaverga, Alba.

Dates have been confirmed for next year main event: Grandi Langhe docg from April 2nd to 4th 2017, right before Vinitaly Wine Fair. The recently autonomous Consortium of Roero docg (Nebbiolo, Arneis) will also participate.
